Marta Rivera-Alba

I was born in Madrid in 1983, but I have always lived in Segovia. I studied Physics  in the Univesidad Autónoma de Madrid between 2001 and 2006. I got an Erasmus grant for my last course in the Università degli studi di Firenze (Florence, Italy). I studied a Master in Biophysics in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid the course 2006/2007. I started to collaborate in the Profesor de Polavieja's Lab when I was an undergraduated student performing some Matlab programming, electrophysiology in Leech (Hirudo medicinalis) and some experiments in Drosophila behaviour.

I started my PhD in 2007 with the supervision of Profesor de Polavieja and in collaboration with the Profesor Dmitri Chklovskii Lab in Janelia Farm (Howard Hughes Medical Institute, USA). I am working in 3D reconstruction of the first optic lobe (lamina ) in Drosophila.  We are trying to reconstruct all of the volume and the connectivity to test the optimization theories of the nervous system, successfully applied to other animals before.
